What is a PocDoc Healthy Heart Check? Where can I buy one?

The PocDoc Healthy Heart Check is an at-home finger-prick blood test that measures your cholesterol levels and calculates your cardiovascular disease (CVD) risk score.

Using the free PocDoc app and a small blood sample, the test analyses your lipid levels and combines them with a short health questionnaire to give you a personalised Healthy Heart Age and a 10-year CVD risk score — the same risk assessment tool used by the NHS.

What will the test tell me?

Your results will include:

• Your total cholesterol, HDL, LDL and triglyceride levels
• Your cholesterol ratio (total cholesterol to HDL)
• Your Healthy Heart Age — how your heart health compares to your actual age
• Your 10-year cardiovascular disease risk score, calculated using the NHS-approved QRISK®3 tool

What do I need to complete the test?

You will need:

• A compatible smart device with internet access running Android 11 or higher, or iOS 11 or higher
• The free PocDoc app, downloaded before you begin — see How do I download the PocDoc app?
• Your height, weight, ethnicity and postcode
• Some basic health information, such as whether you have diabetes, high blood pressure or a family history of heart disease

Before you begin: Drink a large glass of water 20–30 minutes before taking your test. Being well hydrated helps ensure the best possible blood sample.

How long does it take?

The test itself takes around 10 minutes. Your results are available in the app immediately after the test is complete, and will also be sent to you by email as a password-protected PDF.

Which app do I need?

The PocDoc Healthy Heart Check is for personal use and requires the PocDoc app — not the PocDoc Pro app. The PocDoc Pro app is used exclusively by healthcare professionals testing other people and will not work with a personal test kit. See Which app do I need to install? for more information.
